Only Thor would attempt the latest test of heroic strength that destiny has set up for the son of Odin. And even he will have his immortal hands full trying to defeat the evil Dark Elves and their wicked plot to plunge the universe into eternal night, especially since Thor’s own father and all of Asgard can’t defeat them. All Nine Realms are in danger of being destroyed if Thor can’t counter the universe’s most aggressive antagonist. Even Thor himself might have to make a tremendous sacrifice before the battle is over.
In a continuation of The Avengers, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is called upon to stop Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston), who rules the Dark Elves of a world called Svartalfaheim, from carrying out his horrible plans. And waiting in the wings to serve up additional wicked mischief aimed at foiling our hero is Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s own adopted brother. All that bad news together would make one grand action adventure movie without any additional plot.
But more plot there is, and it only makes the watching better. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is there, providing a love interest for an already stressed Thor. And since a triangle is always more fun than a simple boy-girl relationship, there’s Sif (Jaime Alexander), a deity who grew up with Thor and would like to have him all to herself.
If Thor had to handle everything by himself, he would be one worn out god. Fortunately, he has the Warriors Three on his side to provide Malekith and Loki with more than one target for their monstrous shenanigans. The three are: Fandral (Zachary Levi); Volstagg (Ray Stevenson); and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano), each one a god of Asgard, so they’re quite capable of giving Thor an assist where he needs it.
Of notable mention, Stan Lee, who helped create Thor for Marvel Comics, has a small part in the movie. And playing Odin, king of Asgard, is Anthony Hopkins, who always has a regal appearance no matter who he plays.
Marvel Studios produced the movie, and it will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. So you know this film will be great from beginning to end.
And we’ve got the tees that’ll give you plenty of Thor moments on their own. So come on and take a look; you’re bound to get your own place in Asgard when you wear one.
It certainly is promising to be a Superhero year at the movie theater. Big ones coming out in a fast and furious pace:
1. Iron Man 3
Tony Stark as portrayed so well by Robert Downey Jr as the self-proclaimed “genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist,” is back in theaters in Iron Man 3 on May 3. This time he is getting beat up by supervillain the Mandarin, brought to the big screen for the first time by Ben Kingsley. He likes his jokes but this time is in risk of losing everything — perhaps including his girlfriend and levelheaded counterpart Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).
2. Man of Steel
Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel is set go off on June 14. I have been reading mixed opinions on this movie. It appears that Zack Snyder is covering his story with a soft and human-like lens. Henry Cavill’s suit seems like higher tech than the expensive spandex version in earlier superman movies.
3. The Wolverine
Hugh Jackman returns as the mutant with the adamantium claws in “X-Men” movie set in Japan. Directed by James Mangod, who has movies like “Girl, Interrupted” and the underrated Western “3:10 to Yuma.” This is a first superhero movie by the acclaimed director and i will wait to see it before we count it in all-timers. The trailer gives the indication of a action filled film though. Bring it on!
4. Thor – The Dark World
The hammer-wielding God of Thunder is back in “Thor: The Dark World.” The movie pits the short-tempered Asgardian prince against an ancient race of Dark Elves, led by the villain Malekith. We do not know yet how it will turn out in the movie, but Marcel Comics usually portrays him as a smart, fast super villain with many tricks. I think this movie will be a blast!
